Elves are native to the plane of the Feywild, a mirror world of this one, where magic and nature make up everything. Terras, being the continent most like the Feywild, is where most Elves call home. The Elves of this plane are separate into three subraces, High Elves, Wood Elves, and Drow (dark elves). The Drow live deep in the Underdark, far away from other civilized races, while the High Elves and Wood Elves mingle more peacefully on the surface. High Elves will usually live in their own cities and kingdoms over the continent, but they can also be found in the more cosmopolitan cities, sometimes even in Skaarn. Wood Elves, on the other hand, mingle more commonly with the Humans, and demi-human establishments. It is not uncommon to see a family of Wood Elves living in a small hamlet in the middle of a human kingdom.
Elves, who live for hundreds of years, take careful consideration into which gods to worship. Unlike some other races, there is no one favoured Elvish religion. Ten different elves could easily have different gods. The nature-Mother, Gaia, is probably the most worshipped among elves, if only because most elves live in forests; her temples. Drow are constant in their worship of Lolth, Demon Queen of Spiders, who dwells with them in The Underdark.
Elves have a not-entirely-untrue reputation for being haughty towards other races. That said, many elves are quite willing to live and work with other races, as well as each other. Though they tend further towards introversion, they see the value in teamwork. This usually results in large, beautiful cities with a very quiet population.
Same as described in PHB, (pg 21). The closer they live in proximity to humans, the more they tend to look like them, but the closer they live to the Feywild, the more wild their appearances become.
